Successes and Challenges in Modeling Wave-Plasma Interactions in Magnetically Confined Plasmas

Cynthia Phillips
Princeton Plasma Physics Lab

Considerable progress in understanding wave-plasma interactions that are important in radio frequency (RF) heating of fusion plasmas has been made possible by the use of modern MPP computers. In this presentation, some of the recent successes in modeling ongoing RF heating experiments on tokamaks and some of the remaining numerical and mathematical challenges will be discussed.
