Mathematical Modelling and Numerical simulation of LiFePO4 Cathodes

Work in collaboration with Dr Steven Dargaville. In this seminar we will present a two-scale, phase-field model for modern, high-rate LiFePO4 cathodes and attempt to validate against experimental discharge data. We also compare this with a shrinking-core based multi-scale cathode model that we developed previously. Validating against high-rate experimental data, in which electronic and electrolytic resistances have been reduced is an excellent test of the validity of the crystal-scale model used to represent the phase-change that may occur in LiFePO4. A discussion of the “many particle” effects observed from the two-scale, phase-field cathodic model introduced will also be included in this presentation.
