Domain Decomposition and Computer Architecture - a stable relationship?

Petter Bjorstad
University of Bergen

Domain decomposition methods for solving large scale computing problems are as old as the computer.
Considerable algorithmic progress was made in the mid 80s at the same time as parallel computers made their entry.
Since then, the scientific community has organized 25 international conferences on the topic.
The talk will review some basic DD-concepts and then consider how these methods may adapt to changing computer architecture.
