Encoded Universality - Adapting Quantum Processing to Physical Interactions

I shall outline the approach of encoded universality, whereby universal gate sets are derived from physically convenient sets of interactions by means of encoding logical qubits. Motivation, theoretical analysis, and applications to solid state and to scalable gas phase systems will be presented.
