Inferring coupled oscillatory dynamics from data

In the analysis of oscillatory processes, one needs a good estimation of the phase. Here I discuss a recently suggested approach to phase demodulation based on iterated Hilbert transforms. I demonstrate that for purely phase modulated signals this method provides perfect demodulation, while its performance is much purer if also an amplitude modulation is presented. I also discuss, how a transformation from a generic protophase of an oscillatory signal to a ``true phase'' can be accomplished.
