In this talk I will discuss new computational methods for epitaxial growth. In these methods the adatom field is computed with a diffusion equation whereas the dynamics near the step edge are computed with a discrete model. I will discuss two difference types of discrete models that we have used. The advantage of this approach is that it retains the potential advantage of continuum field and at the same time discrete and stochastic effects are retained near the step edge where they can be very important. It is anticipated that this approach could be significantly faster than kinetic monte carlo near equilibrium or when the dettachment rate is large. This joint work with W. E, G. Russo, L. Sander, and T. Schulze.
