Protein Structure Prediction

David Wild
Keck Graduate Institute

The prediction of protein secondary and tertiary structure from amino acid sequence is motivated by the large discrepancy between the number of representative sequences and structures in current databanks. Since protein three-dimensional structure is more conserved than sequence these initiatives also open up the possibility of biochemical or biophysical functional characterization via structure.

This tutorial will discuss some of the so-called "knowledge-based" approaches to protein structure prediction, along with some more recent ab-initio approaches.
