BRB Array Tools: an integrated package for the analysis of DNA microarray data

BRB ArrayTools is an integrated software package developed by the Biometrics Research Branch at the National Cancer Institute for the analysis of DNA microarray data. ArrayTools contains utilities for processing expression data from multiple arrays, visualization of data, multidimensional scaling, clustering of genes and arrays, and prediction of array classes. Genes of interest can be annotated by linking to clone reports at the NCI/DCS Microarray Center database using standard clone identifiers. This Excel-based software package uses Excel 97 or later as the user interface for various back-end programs written in R (a non-proprietary statistical package which is similar to S-Plus), Java, and Fortran. The Excel front-end provides a familiar environment for users, while the R back-end provides the flexibility which is needed for the adaptation of new statistical methodology. As a result, the existing suite of tools is expected to expand as new methods of analyses are being developed at the Biometrics Research Branch and elsewhere.
