Star Formation, Fragmentation, and Protoplanets in Discs

I will discuss two areas of astrophysical fluids dynamics research, namely the formation of stars in turbulent molecular clouds and the interaction of a planet with a gaseous circumstellar disc. In the spirit of 'grand challenges', I will discuss some of the numerical challenges that these problems pose, including high resolution, large ranges in dynamical timescales, and parallelisation issues.
