Coarse-graining of nucleation and growth models

Martin Burger

This talk discusses some techniques to obtain meso- and macroscopic descriptions of growth processes with stochastic nucleation. We consider bulk nucleation and growth processes in the presence of a high number of grains, whose geometric characteristics can be computed by mesoscale averaging. Moreover, we discuss some continuum limits of step flow models, derived from a reformulation in terms of metric gradient flows.
