Naturally occurring lipids are but a small subset of amphiphiles that can self-assemble
into membranes. Lipids are almost always smaller than 1000 Da, but need not be.
Lipids tend to be relatively monodisperse, but need not be. We will describe the development and application of block copolymer membranes using a range of higher MW and polydisperse block copolymer amphiphiles. Applications described will include interactions with peptides, cell membranes, and mimickry of virus escape mechanisms.
