Low-genus curves over finite fields

Everett Howe

Cryptography inspires interest not only in particular problems of number theory and arithmetic geometry, but also in whole fields
of study. One area of research that is gaining increased attention from cryptographers is the study of low-genus curves over finite fields. In this talk I will discuss a number of basic questions concerning such curves, some of them open, some recently settled.
