Lipid Bilayer Membranes: Materials Science and Materials Engineering

David Needham
Duke University

This tutorial will discuss lipid membranes as an engineering material. It explores the materials relationships between lipid bilayer membrane composition, structure and properties focusing on, mechanical, electrical, and thermal properties, permeability, molecular exchange, and intersurface and surface-molecule interactions. An engineered application will also be discussed, “in vivo drug delivery and temperature-triggered drug release for anti-cancer treatment”.
