DiPerna-Lions: Past, Present and Future

Russel Caflisch

This talk will give an overview of the DiPerna-Lions Theorem and its significance. It will then focus on several issues related to
DiPerna-Lions: Are there solutions of the Boltzmann equation that do not conserve energy? Do existence results such as DiPerna-Lions provide any insight into simulation methods? What is the role of the Master Equation in analysis and simulation of rarefied flows? Are there similar results for Coulomb collisions between charged particles in a plasma?
