Marco Sammartino, a professor in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at University of Palermo, has been awarded the International Agostinelli Prize for 2015 from the Accademia dei Lincei (Italian National Academy) for research in the fields of Pure and Applied Mechanics and Mathematical Physics. The prize recognizes his research in fluid dynamics, kinetic theory and reaction-diffusion equations, in particular his results on existence and uniqueness for solutions of the Prandtl equations.  Sammartino is a participant in IPAM’s current program on Traffic Flow Management.
