Geometrically Based Motions 2002 Reunion Conference

September 16  – 20, 2002

Organizing Committee:

Stan Osher (UCLA)
Eitan Tadmor (UCLA)
Fadil Santosa (University of Minnesota)

Introduction

In the Spring of 2001, IPAM hosted a semester long program on Geometrically Based Motions. This program sought to highlight new numerical and analytical techniques for computing geometric objects and capturing moving interfaces. Real world applications (ranging from materials science to image processing) that can now be investigated using these new methods were also reviewed and discussed. The program featured tutorials, lectures, seminars and ad-hoc meetings on such topics as high resolution numerical methods, convolution generated motion, threshold dynamics, dynamic surface extension, cellular automata, stochastic partial differential equations and harmonic maps. The program also featured a highly successful culminating workshop at Lake Arrowhead. You can get details of this conference at

The reunion conference, again at the Lake Arrowhead site, seeks to reunite and bring together participants from the earlier program and also provide topical highlights and new developments in the field. The conference will feature selected speakers but will also include free-form discussion periods intended to allow maximal participant involvement and generate cutting edge ideas. The week-long conference, September 16-20, 2002 will take place at the UCLA Lake Arrowhead Conference Center and promises to be a unique experience for participants.
