"I had a wonderful experience this summer. Our
research problem was very interesting as well as challenging and fun to
work on. The most exciting thing about this program is that all the
teams were working on the unsolved problems with real life applications.
Of course, we required a lot of guidance from our faculty advisor whose
help we very appreciated, however, we still had many opportunities to
make our own decisions.
The environment and the staff at IPAM were great. Everyone here was
very friendly and helpful. I especially enjoyed working in my own office
with the computer and the phone.
I would highly recommend this program to everyone. For me it was
the most valuable research experience and I enjoyed every day of it."

"The RIPS program was the most positive learning experience I have ever
had. Besides having a rich, interesting problem to work on, we were also
given the freedom to explore the problem at our own pace without too
much pressure and guidance from our mentors or sponsors. By working hard
and drawing on the diverse talents and experiences of our group, we were
able to complete an amazing amount of high-quality work in a very short
time span. Our mentors were also very helpful and supportive when we had
difficulties with our research.
The non-academic nature of the program was excellent as well. The
facilities and staff of the IPAM building were incredible, and all of
the resources of the campus and the Los Angeles area were also available
to us. When we weren't working, many of us could be found swimming,
exercising in the athletic center, or spending time off-campus in Santa
Monica or Westwood. We also engaged in tourist activities such as
visiting Universal Studios and Hollywood.
Finally, the very best part of the program was the participants. It was
nice to work with people from universities all around the country and
even the world. Not only was it easy to cooperate and work well with
everyone on a professional level, but by the end of the summer, I had
made several very good friends."Sheffler, Michael

"RIPS was more than I could have ever asked for in
an Applied Math summer program. I began the summer hoping to learn more
about the industrial applications for the field, and RIPS gave me
precisely that exposure. It was interesting to see what kind of work was
being done by the participating engineering companies. The program
provided practice for giving presentations and publishing research. I
got to work with some great students from all over the world, and make
some lasting friendships along the way."

"This was the most rewarding summer I remember. Of
course, there were some hard times, but now looking back, I wish it was
longer. The program was very close to perfect in all aspects: people,
place, work, leisure.
It showed me that opportunities that I only dreamed of before are
in fact very real! A very encouraging feeling.
PS: this may sound like a commercial ad, but the thing is that I
really feel this way :-)
Thank You for everything."

"The RIPS program was absolutely fantastic
experience and I would recommend it to anyone. We had a choice of doing
virtually anything. We could study as much or as little as we wanted to,
it was completely up to us. But on the other hand, we had an opportunity
to learn a lot in those two months and most of us did. Our advisor
helped us very much and all other IPAM people were very helpful and nice
too. I value the program as the best academic experience ever. Moreover,
when we did not have energy to work on our project, we could have gone
to a gym, a swimming pool, beach or we played tennis."

"Being in the program was the most enjoyable
experience of my undergraduate career. I was exposed to so many
different areas of mathematics and it helped reinforce my decision to
pursue a PhD in Applied Mathematics. Aside from academics, UCLA is a
great place to spend the summer. The weather is always beautiful and
there are plenty of things to do in Westwood.
The only downfall was that by the end, I didn't want to leave. Thanks
once again for giving me this opportunity. :)"

"I wanted to thank you again for a wonderful
experience last summer. It has definitely helped me in my jump to
graduate school, as I have been accepted to 9 out of the 10 Ph. D.
programs. My group did in fact submit a paper for publication almost
entirely based on last summer's research. It was recently resubmitted,
so it should be accepted soon."

"Summer RIPS was great! It was an excellent
opportunity to apply the math learned in the classes to the real
industrial projects. Another great aspect of the program was working at
IPAM with friendly IPAM staff. They made everything for us to have an
enjoyable experience, and I really enjoyed it. If anyone is in doubt
about summer plans, I would say that RIPS is definitely the way to go."
