  • Personal Statement:

Please write a brief (max 5,000 character) statement describing your interest in attending the 2023 AMIGAs summer program.  Describe the mathematical areas of research you are interested in pursuing during your graduate program and the approximate timeline for choosing an advisor.  We want to understand how your identities have impacted your mathematical journey. To the extent that you feel comfortable sharing, please describe your academic journey, possibly including your experiences collaborating with, supporting, and being supported by your peers, particularly those from groups marginalized in mathematics. Send a pdf of your statement to amigas@ipam.ucla.edu.

  • Resume or CV

Please send a pdf of your resume or CV to amigas@ipam.ucla.edu.

  • One letter or reference:

One letter of reference from someone who can speak to your potential in your graduate program. Please email your letter-writer the following sentences:

I am writing to request a  brief letter of reference to support my application to the 2023 AMIGAs summer program to be held at the Institute for Pure and Applied Mathematics (IPAM) in UCLA, July 10-14, 2023. This week-long program is designed to support and train incoming second or third year graduate students who plan to focus on research in the fields of applied and computational mathematics or data science, with a special emphasis on increasing the number of women, particularly women of color. The program would appreciate your candid opinion of me as a student, including in what capacity you have worked with me, my potential for success in my graduate program in the mathematical sciences, how I might benefit from the program, and how I may contribute to this community. For more information about the program, please see the AMIGAs website: https://www.ipam.ucla.edu/amigas. IPAM requests that you send your letter to amigas@ipam.ucla.edu.
