UCLA Mathematics Professor Terence Tao joined IPAM as a Director of Special Projects on July 1, 2025. Tao will help formulate and realize IPAM’s scientific vision and its mission. In this role, he will also help IPAM reach a wide mathematics and scientific community, solicit proposals, and recruit organizers for future IPAM programs. As one of the most prominent mathematicians in the world, Tao bring to IPAM his wide vision of mathematics and science as evidenced by multiple honors, including the Fields Medal, Royal Medal Breakthrough Prize, MacArthur Fellow, and membership in the National Academy of Science.
