Atomistic Electrochemistry and the Electric Double Layer: Concepts and Simulations

Axel Gross
Universität Ulm

Processes at electrode/electrolyte interfaces play a critical role in electrochemical energy conversion and storage. Still it is fair to say that our knowledge about the structure of this interface is limited, especially as far as the electric double layer in the electrolyte is concerned. Furthermore, there are some conceptually issues with respect to the definition of potentials in interfacial electrochemistry which will be addressed in this talk. In addition, some recent examples of atomistic simulations of electrochemical interfaces will be presented.
