Sobolev and BV functions on metric measure spaces and weak gradients

In the talk I will review some classical and recent work on the theory of Sobolev and BV spaces on metric measure spaces. In this connection, I will also illustrate and compare the corresponding notions of weak gradient, pointing out analogies and differences.
