ABSTRACT

Drawing Pictures at Random
Thursday, June 6, 2013

The goal of this lecture will be to give an introduction to angle-preserving transformations (the so-called conformal transformations) and their connections to random fractal curves in the plane. In particular, the presentation will describe the random curves known as Schramm-Loewner Evolutions, which were introduced by Oded Schramm in 1999. They appear in various natural settings and have been the subject of numerous research works.

No mathematical background is needed.
