IPAM congratulates Dr. Cynthia Dwork on receiving the 2026 Japan Prize in Electronics, Information, and Communication for her pioneering contributions to building an ethical digital society, including differential privacy and fairness.

Dwork’s work established mathematically rigorous foundations for privacy protection, algorithmic fairness, and secure, decentralized systems. Her introduction of differential privacy has had lasting global impact, with adoption by major technology companies and government institutions, including the 2020 U.S. Census.

A longtime member of the IPAM community, Dwork has participated in numerous IPAM workshops as a speaker and organizer, and served on IPAM’s Science Advisory Board from 2014 to 2023. IPAM is proud to recognize her outstanding achievements and this well-deserved honor.
