We describe a framework to study unitary CFT in two dimensions
using nets of von Neumann algebras which satisfy certain
conditions including locality. Rigorous results (which
have not been obtained by other methods ) about
orbifolds and cosets will be given, including the recent proof of a duality in the Kazama-Suzuki cosets.
