Abstract

Fast, hierarchical algorithms in computational science

Leslie Greengard

New York University

We will describe a variety of fast, hierarchical methods in computational physics and chemistry that have been created over the last two decades, with application to molecular dynamics, electromagnetic modeling, inverse acoustic scattering and image reconstruction. These are all computationally intensive tasks where applied mathematics and algorithm development have made significant contributions to the state of the art.
