Internal wave generation by rotating convection

Many natural systems exhibit convection which is strongly influenced by rotation. These convective regions are often adjacent to stably-stratified regions which support internal (inertia-gravity) waves. Here we study the excitation of inertia-gravity waves by rapidly-rotating convection. Previous works have made a range of theoretical predictions of how rotation affects the wave excitation process, which has already been characterized in non-rotating systems. We run numerical simulations where the convection is driven by internal heating, which makes it much easier to reach diffusion-free scalings that we believe are characteristic of natural systems. To leading order, we find that rotation does not influence the wave excitation process, contrary to previous theoretical predictions.
