One of the most critical pieces in cryptographic hardware design, is the
true (or physical) random number generator (TRNG). In this talk we will
summarize the state of the art in TRNG design. Our goal is to give an
overview of popular design techniques and reveal their positive and
negative aspects. We touch on the difficulty of providing reliable
verification techniques for random bit generation and present a set of
criteria that capture both security and practicality considerations. We
finally briefly describe several design techniques that meet the set
criteria at several levels.
