Abstract
On Minimalism and Scale in Sensor Networks

Due to the relatively small sensing range of microsensors,
comprehensive coverage requires very large numbers of sensor nodes.
We argue that minimalism in design is key to scaling up sensor
networks. Examples of minimalistic design in our research group
include imaging sensor networks, distributed beamforming, target
tracking with binary proximity sensors, and architectures for
large-scale camera networks. We plan to give an overview of the
concepts underlying some of these designs.
