The general linear model has provided the dominant framework for the analysis of functional neuroimaging data. In this talk, I briefly introduce linear statistical methods and describe how they have been applied to fMRI data. I then discuss empirical tests of the assumptions underlying this approach, focusing on whether the brain’s hemodynamic response is a linear function in space and time of some measure of neural activity.
