Igor Pak is a Professor of Mathematics at UCLA with research interests in Combinatorics, continuing a strong tradition of this subject at UCLA that began in the 1940s.  Pak’s interests range from polyhedral geometry, questions about tilings and lattices; his interests now include also topics in Statistical Physics.  Pak has been a returning speaker at IPAM, discussing connections between topics in mathematics and theoretical physics. “It’s my job and I love it,” he says, adding “I would do it every day for the rest of my life! I’m passionate about it.”
