Interview with Terrence George

Terrence George researches dimer models, which model spin states in physics; he is especially interested what happens in larger lattices. Such mathematical models are used by physicists to investigate statistical mechanics in extreme conditions and at phase transitions of matter. Terrence has been working with triangular and hexagonal lattices, studying limit shapes of certain models. He describes the research almost mystically, “Sometimes, I get this feeling that some things are not man-made and that we are discovering them instead of inventing them.”
