Wes Campbell is the principal investigator at the Campbell Group inside UCLA Physics. He leads a team that is using ultra cold Barium 133 to create trapped ion systems. These trapped ions easily display their quantum states, acting as qubits for quantum computing. Wes was one of the select presenters for IPAM’s 2024 workshop “Quantum Information Science for Chemistry,” where physicists and chemists met in person to share overlapping research. Crossing disciplines is important to Wes, because “you’re going to be a much stronger scientist. You’re going to be able to make connections that no one else can make. The real progress lies at the boundaries.”
