Elliott Lieb Receives 2023 Kyoto Prize

We are thrilled to report that Elliott H. Lieb, Professor of Mathematics and Higgins Professor of Physics (emeritus) at Princeton University, has been awarded the 2023 Kyoto Prize. The Kyoto Prize is an international award of Japanese origin that honors individuals who have made significant contributions in the fields of science and technology, as well as the arts and philosophy. Dr. Lieb has successfully established a foundation for mathematical research in fields such as physics, chemistry, and quantum information science.

Dr. Lieb participated as a speaker in IPAM’s 2013 workshop Semiclassical Origins of Density Functional Approximations which has led to a number of follow up programs at IPAM.
