IPAM NSF funding status
Latest Updates:
We have been notified that the suspension of our NSF grant DMS-1925919 has been lifted. However, at present NSF is not issuing new awards to UCLA.
Frequently asked questions:
1. What is the effect on IPAM programs?
We are committed to continuing our programs for the immediate future and at this time we are not cancelling activities or invitations. The institute is continuing its operations thanks to a carry-forward in our old NSF grant, as well as non-NSF funds, including fundraising.
2. What can I do to help?
We have launched a fundraising campaign to keep IPAM going for the immediate future. Although restoration of previous NSF funding makes a small carry-forward available to IPAM, no new funding is available at this time since new NSF awards to UCLA are not being made. Any donation helps. Donate online now! Please contact us if you have any questions about donations or for more information by emailing the IPAM director at director@ipam.ucla.edu.
3. Is IPAM accepting new program proposals?
Yes! Our Science Advisory Board will meet this Fall as scheduled to select our activities for the future. We are accepting proposals for workshops, long programs, and summer schools, as usual. The proposal deadline is September 30th. Please visit our program proposal page for more information.
4. What is the status of NSF funding?
The suspension of NSF funding to UCLA has been lifted, but new NSF funding is not being awarded at this time.
5. What is the long-term outlook on IPAM NSF funding?
IPAM has been very successful in enabling innovation and progress in mathematics and its applications, and has a proven track record. Our mission of creating new scientific research communities, enabling cross-disciplinary collaborations, and helping launch careers of mathematicians and scientists is closely aligned with the goals of the mathematical sciences institutes program at NSF. At this time, new NSF awards to UCLA cannot be made.
