Many problems in material sciences involve the motion of geometric objects such as interfaces or filaments. In recent years, fast and efficient numerical methods have also been invented to simulate the motion of such geometric objects. The main purpose of this conference is to bring together material scientists, applied mathematicians and physicists to discuss new and interesting problems in material sciences involving the dynamics of defects and interfaces, to examine the physical, numerical and mathematical issues involved, and to explore the possibility of applying the newly developed numerical tools as well as the necessity to develop new ones. The emphasis is on mutual interaction between different communities.
