I will introduce our recent work on utilizing a system-bath interaction framework to prepare the ground state of a target Hamiltonian. The proposed algorithm requiring only a single ancilla qubit, forward Hamiltonian simulation, and partial tracing. These features make it highly suitable for near-term and early fault-tolerant quantum hardware. Finally, I will also introduce a new method for estimating the physical properties of degenerate ground state spaces.
