Thermoelectrics: A theoretical approach to the search for better materials

Jorge Sofo

The efficiency of the conversion between thermal and electrical energy in thermoelectric modules mainly depends on the transport properties of the materials used on their active elements. We will review their design and basic principles of operation to converge in the transport mechanism that currently limit their applicability. A new look at this basic principles from the point of view of the general laws governing this energy conversion may be the way to reach a breakthrough in performance.
