A model for vehicular traffic with an embedded bus route

We aim to describe a (closed) bus route embedded in regular traffic. To do so we use a microscopic Follow_the Leader model for the bus route and couple it to a simple scalar macroscopic model for the underlying vehicular traffic. The coupling goes in both directions, the buses as moving bottlenecks in the car flow, and the effect of the car flow on the buses' ODEs as microscopic vehicles. The resulting fully coupled micro--macro model promises to give an appropriate description for the car flow as well as for the buses. Finally we show numerical results.
