Dennis Tenen
Columbia University

Surveillance, censorship, exposure. How did we get here? This talk will reflect on the history and the future of human-computer interaction, highlighting the logic behind three foundational paradigms in the field: first, conversational computing, second, direct manipulation, and third, brain-computer interfaces. A range of historical materials will be brought to bear on the successes and the failures of contemporary interface design, with an emphasis on critical reflection and civic engagement.
