The Post-merger Dynamics of Compact Objects: Tackling Long Timescales in Gravitational Wave Sources

William East

I will discuss some of the challenges and rewards to studying the post-merger dynamics and gravitational waves signals of black holes and neutron stars, focusing on two cases. The first is the superradiant instability of spinning black holes in the presence of ultralight bosons, and how gravitational wave observations can be used to probe the existence of new particles. The second is the oscillations and high frequency gravitational radiation of post-merger neutron stars.
