Rooting out the classical in the topological quantum

Colleen Delaney

When is a topological quantum circuit actually efficient to compute on a classical computer? When can measurements of topological states be efficiently simulated classically? Just how ``quantum" is a given topological phase of matter or topological quantum field theory?

I will discuss some recent work in tensor category theory and quantum topology motivated by these kinds of considerations.
