Tony Chan Elected to NAE

Tony Chan photoThe National Academy of Engineering (NAE) recently elected 67 new members and 11 foreign associates. Academy membership honors those who have made outstanding contributions to engineering research, practice, or education. Among the new members is IPAM’s co-founder, former director, and current Trustee Tony Chan for his work on numerical techniques applied to image processing and scientific computing, and for providing engineering leadership at the national and international levels. Chan is now president of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. The list also includes Stephen Boyd (Stanford), who was an organizer of the 2010 Optimization long program.
