Calculating Entropy in Monte Carlo Simulations

Entropy and free energy are two thermodynamic quantities that cannot be directly measured in Monte Carlo simulations. While of minor interest in condensed matter systems they are of central interest in the simulation of ultracold atomic gases. These atomic gases are isolated from the environment and changes of parameters happen adiabatically and not isothermally. To compare experiments to simulations it is thus essential to know the entropy as a function of temperature. I will review various ways of obtaining the entropy in classical and quantum Monte Carlo simulations.
