IPAM congratulates Daniel Massatt for being awarded the 2019 Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematicians (SIAM) Student Paper Prize. Massatt was awarded for his paper, “Electronic Density of States for Incommensurate Layers,” published in Multiscale Modeling and Simulation: A SIAM Interdisciplinary Journal in 2017. The Student Paper Prize is awarded annually to the student authors of the most outstanding papers accepted by a SIAM journal within the three years preceding the nomination deadline. The award is based solely on the merit and content of the candidate’s contribution to the paper. Massatt, a Martin H. Kruskal Instructor in the Department of Statistics at the University of Chicago, has participated in several of IPAM’s events, including being a core participant for IPAM’s 2017 long program Complex High-Dimensional Energy Landscapes.
