IPAM is delighted to report that Dr. Vikram Gavini and Dr. Sambit Das from The University of Michigan have been awarded the Gordon Bell Prize. The Gordon Bell Prize is awarded each year to recognize outstanding achievement in high-performance computing. Their winning project was on “Large-Scale Materials Modeling at Quantum Accuracy: Ab Initio Simulations of Quasicrystals and Interacting Extended Defects in Metallic Alloys.”

Both Dr. Vikram Gavini and Dr. Sambit Das were participants in IPAM’s New Mathematics for the Exascale: Applications to Materials Science long program this past spring.
