Goldwater Scholarship awarded to 2014 RIPS Student
Nathan Ng, a 2014 RIPS-Los Angeles student, was awarded the Goldwater Scholarship, the most prestigious undergraduate award given in the sciences. The Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation aims to provide a continuing source of highly qualified scientists, mathematicians, and engineers by awarding scholarships to college students who intend to pursue research careers in these fields. A triple major in Physics, Mathematics and Economics at the University of Maryland, Ng is interested in theoretical condensed matter physics and has plans to conduct research in high-temperature superconductivity. Ng and his teammates worked on the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory project entitled “Polynomial expansion method for the numerical solution of the Lenard-Balescu equation.” The team was mentored by Frank Graziani, Chris Scullard, and Susana Serna.
