The John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation recently awarded fellowships to 178 scholars, artists, and scientists. Out of the nearly 3,000 applicants in the Foundation’s 92nd competition, three IPAM participants were appointed fellows on the basis of “prior achievement and exceptional promise.” Congratulations go out to:

  • Charles Doering (University of Michigan)—organizer of the 2014 long program on Mathematics of Turbulence and participant in the 2008 long program on Optimal Transport
  • George Legrady (UC Santa Barbara)—speaker in “Beyond Text: Image, Music, Video, Interactivity and Performance,” the first workshop of our current long program on Culture Analytics
  • Mark Newman (University of Michigan)—speaker in an upcoming Culture Analytics workshop, “Cultural Patterns: Multiscale Data-driven Models”
