Ingrid Daubechies, the James B. Duke Professor of Mathematics and Electrical and Computer Engineering at Duke University, has received a $1.5 million grant from the Simons Foundation. According to the Simons Foundation, the Math + X Investigator award provides research funds to professors at American and Canadian universities to encourage novel collaborations between mathematicians and researchers in another field of science or engineering. This most recent award adds to Daubechies many notable achievements for her seminal work on wavelet research, digital signal processing, and time-frequency analysis. Daubechies has visited IPAM many times, most recently as a speaker in a workshop on Shape Analysis, and as the 2016 Green Family Lecturer.
