IPAM Remembers Scott James

Posted on 5/12/21 in News

IPAM mourns the death of colleague and friend, Scott James, Associate Professor of Geosciences at Baylor University.  Dr. James was a core participant in IPAM’s 2019 long program on Geometry and Learning from Data in 3D and Beyond, in which he participated enthusiastically by leading working groups and mentoring  junior participants. Recently tenured and promoted in August 2020, Dr. James was a prolific research scholar, and worked seven years at Baylor. Prior to his time at Baylor, he was employed both in private industry as well as at several US national labs. Although an engineer by training and degrees held, Dr. James was the consummate team player, and was sought after by faculty members not only at Baylor, but also nationally and internationally for his expertise in building numerical models. He is survived by his mother, Christina Williams; his brother, Monty James; and long-time friend Angie Sonnenschein. He will truly be missed.
