IPAM’s Associate Director Christian Ratsch and Director of Special Projects Stan Osher are both featured in the September issue of the Advanced Institute for Materials Research (AIMR) Magazine.

In the spotlight article, Ratsch discusses the mission of the institute to connect mathematics with other sciences, the applications of math to different fields of research, and IPAM’s 2012 interdepartmental agreement with AIMR.

In the cover story, Osher and former CNSI director Paul Weiss address the importance of interdisciplinary collaborations to further bridge connections between mathematicians and material scientists and the central role that mathematics plays in current research across different areas of specialization.
